Looking back on the February 10-11, 2015 press trip

A group of fifteen or so journalists took part in our press trip and was immediately given a preview of the professional, two-day event ahead: an intense schedule including tastings of the 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages, a Masterclass at the Oenoteam laboratory and visits to estates awaited them.

The Masterclass introduced three themes: evolving Club wines to suit changing consumer demand; the war waged on SO2; and bio-protection, or how to promote sense of place and resources whilst reducing agricultural inputs.

Both specialist and general interest journalists became actively involved in the debate. The three consultant wine makers put forward their viewpoint on each topic. Then a number of Club wine growers – Stéphane Destrade from Château Blissa, Guillaume Sébie, technical director of Château La Claymore and Claire Vincent from Château Ogier de Gourgue – gave his/her account and shared their practical experience.

After this interactive session, theory switched to practice with visits to Châteaux Saint Nicolas and Tessendey..

The day ended with an exclusive preview of the 2014 vintage at Château Ambe Tour Pourret followed by a dinner where the journalists were able to meet the full line-up of In a Bottle Club members.

Some light entertainment was offered towards the end of the meal with a tasting of fine chocolates from prime sources by Hasnaâ Ferreira, an artisan chocolate maker in Bordeaux, paired with wines by Club growers. The chocolates – from five different countries – reflected the same sense of place and expertise as the wines and offered some tantalising combinations, which varied depending on the choice of wine. Ultimately, the two worlds share the same language and taste experience.

The following day, the journalists staying on the various estates were free to tour the property before meeting up for a visit of Château Les Religieuses. The trip ended on an organic note at Château La Grave Figeac where the group shared a relaxed lunch.

More in-depth insight into the three topics addressed at the Masterclass featuring approaches by individual growers and their wines will be available in the Club’s first newsletter. Watch this space!

The partner wine growers all have one thing in common – they all enlist the help of one of these three associate consultant winemakers:
Julien Belle, Stéphane Toutoundji and Thomas Duclos.

This Club offers you the opportunity to meet winegrowers from different Bordeaux and South-West appellations and to discover or select red, white and rosé wines in an affordable price bracket.

These are well-made wines that are monitored technically and are well-received by the media, the market and consumers as quality products.

This platform is dedicated to you – browse, visit and read about our news then come for a tasting.
