Mission “RENEWAL”

Liesel Maurin arrived here at the start of 2017. A year on and she is beginning to get a handle on the property’s potential and its resources.

Lalande is an extension of the vineyard sites in Pomerol with geological recurrences that provide us with magnificent and extremely varied gravel on clay soils over a consistent, 13-hectare vineyard site adjacent to the chateau and winery. Research designed to give us a better understanding of micro-terroirs is on the agenda but in the meantime, the vineyards are perfectly managed, there is a cap on yields and quality and environmental issues have already been dealt with”. With the fundamental issues now out of the way, Liesel is all-set to write new chapters in the history of a property whose potential had already been recognised in the 1990s. She is assisted in this by managing director Pascal Fricard.

There is a depth in the wines that can be likened to the way vines put down roots, coupled with very feminine elegance. Women have never been far from wine and winegrowing and over time have been a source of inspiration at landmark moments in the property’s history.

 Distinguishing features:

Vineyard management is carefully planned and the environmental approach well-integrated with a mindset that is unique to Grand Ormeau. “Individual wine growers should be allowed to choose their own path and guiding principles”, says Liesel. “Nothing is written in stone here – we treat Mother Nature with the greatest humility and respect for what we have been given and will give to future generations, with the resources at our disposal to achieve that.

Working with consultant winemaker Bruno Lacoste and benefitting from the analytical support provided by the cutting-edge Oenoteam laboratory enable us to move forward confidently along a clearly mapped out, safe route”.

Testimonial:

Joining the In a Bottle Club has given us a more holistic vision due to the range of appellations it represents. These are winegrowers who have a like-minded ethos and whose diversity is a source of stimulation for us. It encourages us to join together and provide a better response to the needs of a constantly changing marketplace which is forever in need of a novel, coherent wine proposition”.

The partner wine growers all have one thing in common – they all enlist the help of one of these three associate consultant winemakers:
Julien Belle, Stéphane Toutoundji and Thomas Duclos.

This Club offers you the opportunity to meet winegrowers from different Bordeaux and South-West appellations and to discover or select red, white and rosé wines in an affordable price bracket.
