Château de Brague Rouge

For three generations, the same family has jealously guarded the vineyards at Château de Brague and been particularly attentive to producing its wines.

In 1936, Maurice Trève, Noèle’s grandfather and inventor of railway equipment, bought the property. His daughter and son-in-law built upon his legacy, modernising and adapting production techniques to keep abreast of progress in wine growing and winemaking. His granddaughter Noèle, an architect, has her sights firmly set on producing quality wines that show respect for the environment and the work accomplished over more than 70 years.

Located in the village of Vérac, Gironde, on the border with the Fronsac appellation area, Château de Brague has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Its 26 hectares of unbroken vineyards are situated on a limestone plateau and a South-facing slope with greater clay content and good drainage. The Château, which was built in the 17th century, is set in the heart of a geological formation known as a ‘cuesta’.

In 2001, the Château bought some neighbouring vineyards that produce Château La Reine Audry and complement Château de Brague’s selection of wines. The three Bordeaux grape varieties form Château de Brague’s varietal range with Merlot accounting for a significant 80% share of the blends. The dry white wine is 90% Sémillon – from vines aged 40 years old – and differs from traditional dry Bordeaux white wines for its floral aromas and roundness.

Testimonial:

« We are both witnesses and a party to the ever-changing world of wine. My grandfather, as an inventor, inspired us to embrace progress. We strive to reinvent, rethink and learn again the fundamentals of wine growing so that we can keep up to speed in a changing environment where ecological awareness is a constant concern”. Noèle Galland.

Distinguishing features:

Thanks to the very talented Stéphane Toutoundji, joining Oenoteam has enabled us to improve the quality of our wines. His advice allows us to fine-tune our strategy but also raise the profile of our vineyards and our wines. Being able to trade ideas and information with the wine growers who belong to In a Bottle by Oenoteam and share the same concerns as us, is undeniably a major advantage.
