Château La Bertrande

The location of this 25-hectare, family-run property in the heart of the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, on one of the highest hills overlooking Cadillac and the Garonne valley, affords it an outstanding aspect and terroir.

Although the estate itself dates back to the turn of the 18th century, the Gillet family have been farming it since 1880. Over the generations, their increasing attachment has deepened the enjoyment the family derives from working hard on the land.

The white varietals – Sémillon and Sauvignon – produce both dry and sweet white wines. The single varietal Sémillon wines come from a 2.4-hectare vineyard and are hand-harvested with multiple passes to pick the noble-rot grapes – yields are in the range of 25 hl/ha. The vines are 40 years old on average and their hillside location along the Garonne valley guarantees ultimate sense of place in the wines.

The red varietals – Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Cabernet franc – cover 4 hectares and produce a Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux mirroring true Bordeaux traditions and wine growing expertise.

Testimonial:

“In a family-run structure like ours, our work involves offering consistent quality and maintaining a viable business whilst complying with environmental requirements. We respond to the needs of our vineyards and soils by applying techniques that are often time-honoured. We haven’t invented anything – we just try to be relevant and act reasonably”.

Distinguishing features:

Apart from this, we want to stay traditional, in the best sense of the word, and remain the farmers we have been for several generations but with today’s understanding and a sensible approach to family issues.
