Château de l'Anglais
In the heart of the rolling hills of the AOC Puisseguin Saint-Emilion wine region, Château de l’Anglais reminds us of the area’s eventful history.
In the aftermath of the One Hundred Years’ War, a soldier from the English army allegedly stayed in France, moving to these rolling hills and creating a haven of peace called Domaine de l’Anglais. The name of the appellation was coined when one of Charlemagne’s lieutenants, a certain Seguin, was attracted to the area’s wooded hillsides in the 18th century and decided to settle on the ‘Puy’ or hilltop opposite the plateau of Saint-Emilion!
The clay-limestone hillsides allow Merlot to fully express itself. When François Brissot bought the property in 2004, his partner in wine was none other than the famous French chef Pierre Troisgros. Together, they equipped themselves to make sure they would produce an excellent Puisseguin Saint-Emilion on a vineyard site that still had plenty left in store!
They subsequently began to work with Oenoteam, firstly by entrusting the laboratory with analyses of their wines. Then they enlisted the help and advice of Stéphane Toutoundji to give them an overview of the property and its marketing development through two wines: Château de l’Anglais under the Puisseguin Saint-Emilion appellation and Château de l’Anglais under the Côtes de Castillon appellation.
