Château Jura Plaisance
Two friends and Brest entrepreneurs in the water complex industry ventured into the wine sector in 2015 when they bought Château Jura Plaisance. The property is located in the Montagne Saint-Emilion appellation area adjacent to two neighbouring villages – Pomerol and Saint-Emilion.
The Barbanne, a sub-tributary of the Dordogne, defines the contours of Bordeaux’s Right Bank vineyards along its 66-kilometre journey. Here, it flows along the edges of Jura Plaisance’s vines, promoting a mild climate and protecting the vines from frost that can be severe.
Ten hectares of vines located on clay-limestone soils with plots of sand are planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Jacques Le Failler and Alain L’Helguen decided to enlist the help of a team of technicians with a qualified head viticulturalist, Thierry Germon – who has become the estate’s custodian after moving there – and consultant winemaker Thomas Duclos, who began working on blends starting with the 2014 vintage.
Vineyard management, winemaking and ageing comply with the purest Bordeaux traditions, with a dash of common sense and expert understanding of the terroir on top.
