Château Leydet-Valentin

A part of the division of Château Figeac, this family estate in the Pomerol appellation area was established in 1862. Named Château de Valois in 1886, it was passed down from mother to daughter through 4 generations. Only the name ‘Château de Valois’ has withstood the test of time.

In 1962, Bernard Leydet took over the reins and in 1973 bought Clos Valentin in Saint Emilion, which became Château Leydet-Valentin in 1983 when it gained Saint Emilion Grand Cru status.

The family history continued when Frédéric Leydet joined his father in 1996. Just 22 years old, he graduated with a BTS diploma in viticulture and oenology and worked with his father for 10 years on both properties. He describes the experience as “extremely insightful, mixing tradition and modernity”.

In turn, Frédéric has introduced his own signature style, pushing forward advances in techniques from the vineyard to the wine glass.

Now supported by his wife Stephanie, the couple are passionately committed to developing the Pomerol and Saint Emilion properties which boast just over 16 hectares.

Distinguishing features:

All Leydet vineyards have been farmed organically since the 2015 vintage.
