Château Mazeyres

Château Mazeyres is located in Gironde’s smallest appellation area – Pomerol – renowned for the aromatic intensity of its wines and its archetypal terroir character stemming from an outstanding geological setting. As you would therefore expect, its neighbours are incredibly prestigious. Château Mazeyres’ vineyards cover a beautiful sandy gravel hillock with a subsoil of clayey gravel. Some of them extend over Catusseau plateau formed of sand over a molasse subsoil laden with iron dirt.

Fully aware of its unique qualities, Alain Moueix immediately decided to maximise its potential by stimulating its ability to reveal itself. His first decision was to introduce sustainable vineyard management and to painstakingly map out each individual vineyard site in order to reveal their diversity and complementary nature. Leaning on his experience at Château Fonroque – which has been 100% biodynamic since 2002 – he helped introduce noteworthy improvements mainly by promoting interactions between the plant, the soil, the subsoil and the environment. The strategy acts as a catalyst for natural biological movement and plays a major part both in the wine’s authenticity and its extremely refined sense of place.

The top-notch 2015 vintage marked the first year of biodynamic certification at Château Mazeyres.
